We are able to offer a comprehensive range of appointments. All appointments can be booked by ringing our main switchboard number on 01278 454560. By providing the receptionist with adequate information, they will then be able to offer you an appointment with the most appropriate clinician.
Our Duty Team are available from 8 am to 6.30 pm. If you require an urgent appointment with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner and it needs to be dealt with sooner than the next routine appointment, you will be asked to provide a brief description of your problem by the receptionist and a telephone number that you can be contacted on between given times. A member of the Duty Team will call you back during a pre-arranged time slot and agree the most appropriate course of action with you. This may be an appointment later in the day with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner, or the matter may be sorted over the phone without the need for you to see a clinician. The aim of the Duty Team is to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician in the most appropriate time frame for the presenting ailment.
Routine Appointments If your condition is non-urgent, you have the option to book a routine appointment up to 6 weeks in advance with a Doctor or Nurse of your choice if this is more convenient for you.
Nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. You can expect to see a nurse within one working day and all of them are qualified to prescribe from a range of medicines.
Let us know if more than one person in the family needs to be seen. We can give you a longer appointment if necessary. Tell us if you want someone to accompany you during an examination or a private room to discuss any matters.
NEW Evening and Weekend Appointments
You can now access appointments in the evening and at the weekend if you are registered at a practice in the Bridgwater or surrounding area. Patients who need to see a clinician in the evening or weekend can book an appointment by talking to the receptionist at this practice during opening hours.
In the Bridgwater and surrounding area the following practices are currently involved in this scheme:
Cannington Health Centre
Cranleigh Gardens Medical Centre
East Quay Medical Centre
North Petherton Surgery
Polden Medical Practice
Quantock Medical Centre
Redgate Medical Centre
Somerset Bridge Medical Centre
Taunton Road Medical Centre
Victoria Park Medical Centre
Appointments are available until 8pm on weekdays and on Saturday
When making an appointment please give the receptionist your name, address and any details that are relevant for the appointment. The receptionist might ask some general details about the problem. This is in order to give you the most appropriate type of appointment with the right person.
If blood or other tests are required, please tell the receptionist as we need to ensure these samples are taken earlier in the day to enable them to go to the hospital for processing the same day. Blood tests cannot be performed after 2 pm on Fridays.
Please note the following test/checks require either a 20 or 30 minute appointment slots:
Home visits are carried out for patients that are too ill to visit the surgery. If a home visit is required we encourage patients to phone as early as possible in the day giving the receptionist some idea of the problem so that the doctor can assess the urgency.
Please remember that home visits are very time consuming and that facilities are better in the surgery than at home.
Children can usually be safely wrapped up and brought to the surgery. Patients with rashes can be put in a separate room. We request you therefore attend the surgery whenever it is possible.
At all times please ring the Practice on: 01278 454560.
If you wish to speak to a doctor for advice on a clinical issue please contact the surgery and a clinician will return your call.
It is important that you give details of the nature of your enquiry and contact details.
Getting the Most From Your Doctor
Before your consultation it is often helpful to think about what you want to tell the Doctor or Nurse. This should mean that when you are speaking to them you remember to tell them everything you are worried about or feel is relevant to help the doctor help you. The type of questions you may wish to think about are:-
What are you really worried about?
What symptoms do you want to tell the doctor about?
Are you clear what you want from your Doctor? Perhaps a diagnosis, treatment, referral or just advice.
The attached Patient Information Leaflet, which is also available to pick up in the waiting area has been developed to help patients make best use of the their appointment. Their is space within the leaflet to write down questions you may wish to ask the Doctor.
